Strengthening Europe’s Chemical Resilience: EFCC at the Critical Chemicals Alliance

In December 2025, the European Federation for Construction Chemicals (EFCC) became a member of the newly formed Critical Chemicals Alliance (CCA), an initiative launched under the European Chemicals Industry Action Plan to strengthen the competitiveness and resilience of the EU chemical sector. The Alliance, established by the European Commission to address risks related to plant closures, trade disruptions, and investment shortfalls, brings together Member States, industry stakeholders, and regional authorities to identify critical molecules and reinforce strategic chemical production across Europe. EFCC’s membership reflects the importance of the construction chemicals sector within the broader industry and underlines the role of diverse stakeholders in shaping resilient supply chains and coordinated policy responses.

On 13 January 2026, EFCC took part in the first General Assembly of the Critical Chemicals Alliance held at the Chemelot Chemical Park in Geleen, the Netherlands. The event convened over 140 participants, including industry leaders, representatives from Member States and regions, and high-level EU officials, with Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Stéphane Séjourné leading the proceedings. The Assembly marked a significant milestone in the Alliance’s work to develop coordinated solutions for Europe’s chemical industry challenges, emphasising shared priorities such as supply chain resilience, investment frameworks, and maintaining global competitiveness. EFCC’s participation will help highlighting the critical role of construction chemicals in Europe’s industrial ecosystem and underscore the need for inclusive policy frameworks that support all segments of the chemical value chain.
