On 4 July 2022, CEN and CENELEC published their joint response to the EC Sustainable Products Initiative.

CEN and CENELEC welcome the Sustainable Products Initiative as being instrumental to achieve the EU Green Deal and the UN Sustainable Development Goals and are committed to contributing to the new Regulation’s implementation. However, they point out that the Regulation does not follow the New Legislative Framework (NLF) principles foreseen by the EU harmonization legislation. Therefore, if common specifications are to be maintained, they request the text to be improved.
